I just finished this book after reading it almost non-stop for three days. People had told me it was good, but after Twilight I frankly wasn't expecting much from Stephenie Meyer. A good time, no sparkling vampires... that was pretty much all I asked for. I was not prepared for how good this book was.
It's so much more profound than Twilight was! There was immediate duality in the story, and unlike Twilight everything was not pure black or pure white. There were nuances, you just couldn't figure out what was good and what was bad in the world she created. The fact that the main character is so complex just added so many layers to the story. Bella is a friggin porcelain doll compared to Wanda! Edward does not hold a candle to Jared. But like in Twilight where I preferred Jacob, Ian got my love this time. Just the best character I've read in a while.
Honestly, the book made me cry more than a few times. I got attached to the whole set of characters so easily, I just couldn't help feeling what they were feeling sometimes. Guess that means Meyer got a heck of a lot better, right? 'Cause when Edward left Bella in New Moon, I had nothing! So people, drop you prejudices about Stephenie Meyer and Twilight for a moment and grad The Host. You won't regret it.
